World premieres to moonlit horror screenings – the 17th annual Gold Coast Film Festival is set to impress

Film buffs, your favourite time of year is almost upon us! The 17th annual Gold Coast Film Festival is gearing up to kick off 12 days of pure cinematic goodness, shining the light on the Australian film industry with a stellar program of movie premieres, workshops, gala ceremonies, panels, family-friendly events and so much more.

Running from April 3–14, the Gold Coast Film Festival is upping the ante this year with its world-class program to screen 107 films (whoa) including three world premieres and ten Australian premiers across 13 locations throughout the city. The action will kick off when award-winning filmmaker Damon Gameau (That Sugar Film) hits the red carpet on Wednesday April 3 for the Australian premiere of 2040, and will close with the world premiere of Australian war film Escape and Evasion on Sunday April 14 – and there’s a helluva lot of goodness in between!

For those into thrillers, there’s Horror in the Hinterland on Saturday April 13, a spine-tingling outdoor event will be hosted in the depths of Springbrook (we’re already scared). Those who dare brave the darkness will be treated to the Australian premiere screening of The Furies, followed by the screening of 2012 twisted flick, Cabin in the Woods. There’s also Gold Coast Movie Locations Tours running on various dates, Virtual Reality experiences (Saturday April 13 and Sunday April 14), the sell-out Women in Film Lunch featuring Greer Simpkin (Friday April 5) and the SIPFest: Short Film Festival on Saturday April 6. The festival will also showcase an array of high-profile events allowing special guests and participants to expand their knowledge and networks across more than 40 panels and workshops, filmmaker Q&As, screen-industry guild nights and more. The Gold Coast Film Festival features an array of free and ticketed events, to view the full program head here.
