Gold Coast feasts and happenings for the Fourth of July

While it may not be recognised as a federal holiday in Australia, the Fourth of July is a pretty big deal for our American comrades (as well as Star Wars fans, but that’s another story). And let’s be honest, us Aussies are fairly impartial to a celebratory occasion so we’ve round up some of the city’s best Yankee feasts and happenings for your Fourth of July festivities.

American-inspired eateries have been popping up like mushrooms after a storm, which is great news for the Gold Coast’s burger loving populace! Get your Fourth of July celebrations off to a great start with a Good Morning NYC Bagel from Tribeca NYC on Chevron Island. Palm Beach’s Lester & Earl is going all out for the occasion and showcasing some of the US of A’s finest ales including Brooklyn Brewery and Coors alongside all American cocktails. Sip on a New York Sour; Buleit rye whisky, pineapple, lime and lemon finished with a dash of Shiraz or indulge in a Milton’s Mint Julep that is named after Milton S. Hershey, the founder of Hershey’s chocolate, as you work your way through Lester & Earl’s impressive menu. Because nothing screams America quite like cheese wrapped in bacon, the jalapeno poppers that are stuffed with chorizo and two types of cheese and covered in streaky bacon are a must! Finish your feast with a generous serve of bacon ice-cream and a tipple of bacon-infused vodka. Pop in to Hudson & Co in Surfers Paradise for the All American burger and a Coors or head over to Brooklyn Depot at The 4217 in Surfers Paradise for a mandatory bowl of mac ‘n’ cheese and at least one serve (perhaps more) of Harlem chicken tenders before chowing down a Brooklyn Classic burger. If it’s a Yankee feast you seek, look no further than Easy Street Diner. Slide into one of the New York-style booths and tuck into a hefty serve of the Chick ‘n’ Waffles (that is just as it sounds, delightfully-crispy southern tenders stacked upon fresh Belgian waffles) under the watchful eye of George Costanza. Every morsel on the Easy Street menu, from the signature Cheeseburger Royale (a nice Pulp Fiction reference) to the pumpkin pie, is about as American as the Statue of Liberty.

One50 Public House is also getting into the true spirit of the Fourth of July and raising the stars and stripes for a party of epic proportions. Don your finest American-inspired costume for your chance to win venue vouchers and dance the night away to the swingin’ sounds of Simply Soul. The Wiener Haus is also getting in on the action and will have your ‘merican eats covered from the beer garden with a dog and a schooner of Stone & Wood for just $12. To celebrate The Wiener Haus’ first birthday, the lads will also be unveiling their exciting new range of wieners for your eating pleasure. Southport Sharks is also getting in the spirit of Independence with a USA-themed show featuring Mirrorball Express. Where ever you end up, may the Fourth be with you.
