Support flood-relief efforts with these fundraiser gigs

We don’t want to state the obvious, but it’s been a tough week for Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales. If you’ve been wanting to help but aren’t sure how/when/where to get involved, you aren’t alone. Attending a local fundraising gig is an easy (and fun) way to lend a hand, with proceeds donated to the cause. It’s still early days, but here’s an evolving list of local gigs that are donating proceeds to flood-relief efforts.

Matt Hansford of Chutney at Iku Yakitori Bar, Friday March 4
Local musician Matt Hansford of Chutney has rallied some of his muso mates to play some acoustic covers at Burleigh’s Iku Yakitori Bar this Friday March 4. There will be cold beers courtesy of the legends at Burleigh Brewing Co., mouth-watering morsels from Iku and some sweet threads from Alfred’s to raffle off. All of the proceeds (including the proceeds from the bar) will be donated to flood relief efforts. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased here or at the door. The event kicks off at 6:30 pm.

Tiny Minds presents Club Soda at Elsewhere, Friday March 4
This Friday, all of the proceeds from Club Soda will be donated to GIVIT to help support the community during this tough time. Headlining the set will be Gold Coast alt-pop band Friends of Friends, which will be delivering a multi-genre set spanning drum-and-bass-inspired beats to screaming indie guitars. Supporting them will be Brisbane-based disco queen Pipin alongside the dreamy solo project of Blair Condon aka Miss Lucy. Tickets are $14.45 and you can grab them here. Doors open at 8:00 pm.

Flood Raiser at Miami Marketta, Tuesday March 8
Hosted by Lucy Jackson and Nikki Westcotta alongside a bunch of Gold Coast-based creatives, Flood Raiser will feature a cracking line-up of talent, including Boo Seeka, Choomba, Golding and Little Fritter, to name a few. All proceeds from the gig will be evenly donated to GIVIT, SES and Wildcare Australia. Oztix has removed booking fees so that 100-percent of ticket sales will be donated. Miami Marketta is also donating bar sales profits (after costs) with generous donations from Vodka Soda and Balter Brewery. If you’re keen to show your support, jump over here for tickets and get along to Miami Marketta on Tuesday.

Vinnies Dive Bar, Sunday March 27
This fundraiser is still a couple of weeks away, but it’s definitely one to add to the calendar! The show is set to feature upwards of 20 bands, including the likes of Juno, The Strip (Vic), Powerdrill (NSW), Entrapment, Wishful Thinking, Lifespan, The Royal Artillery, Dream Dali, Salty Season, Kombi Killers and Buckled, to name a few. There will also be a LGBTQI+ after-party hosted by Reclaimed & Friends. If you’re keen, to know more, keep your peepers peeled to Instagram.

As the true extent of the flood damage is yet to be known, this list will likely expand. If you know of more fundraising efforts, get in touch with us at [email protected].
