Federal’s Doma Cafe joins forces with Barrio Byron Bay for a one-night-only Japanese feast

Deep in the Byron Bay Hinterland lies the leafy village of Federal. Those in the know associate this tiny town with being the home of Doma – a Japanese cafe that’s always bustling with locals and visitors vying for a taste of its renowned dishes, from the fresh sushi hand rolls to the towering breakfast burgers topped with golden korokke. On Tuesday October 29, the Doma team will be venturing out of the hinterland for a one-night-only collaboration with Byron Bay’s Barrio Eatery & Bar.

The tasty coastal collab is the latest in Barrio’s Slinging Plates series – a monthly event where head chef and co-owner Francisco Smoje teams up with food and wine identities to ‘sling plates’ and bring local diners a mid-week mixtape of dishes and drinks. This time, Doma chef Taka Kuramoto will be heading to Barrio’s kitchen to deliver a one-off dinner, which will see a raft of Japanese dishes prepared with local ingredients over Barrio’s Spanish wood-fire grill.

Like all Slinging Plates events, there will be $20 and $10 dishes on offer on the night, which are set to include a smoky spread of Japanese favourites and creative bite-sized slices of meats and vegetables grilled over the fire. There will also be a bunch of wines by Unico Zelo on pour for just $10 per glass. Slinging Plates with Doma Cafe kicks off at 5:30 pm on Tuesday October 29. For bookings and details, head to the Barrio website.
