Strap on some skates and head along to East Coast Derby Dolls’ fresh meat

If getting fit whilst having loads of fun and making new friends sounds like something that might be of interest, the East Coast Derby Dolls are looking for some fresh meat and holding an information session on Friday May 1 at 7:00 pm.

Calling someone names and barging them out of the way is generally not considered appropriate behaviour, unless of course you’re participating in a roller derby tournament and then it’s okay, in fact, it’s more than okay, it’s encouraged. The East Coast Derby Dolls is a team of ladies who come together to skate, let out some pent-up aggression and have an absolute ball.

You don’t need to be an amazing skater. In fact, you needn’t have skated at all. You just have to be enthusiastic and willing to learn and the ladies will teach you everything you have to know. Roller derby tends to have a reputation of being needlessly vicious thanks in part to Hollywood representations of the sport however the reality isn’t quite as scary. In fact, while the hits are heavy, you’re perfectly protected and are put through rigorous training prior to your first battle. Have a read of our chat with the club’s president Jess Banks-Brennock and head along to the Runaway Bay Sports Facility for the club’s fresh meat information session with an open mind.
