Sink your teeth into The Arts Centre Gold Coast’s gripping production of Dracula

If you’ve spent endless hours in front of the box watching Twilight and re-runs of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then you’ve probably accrued some sort of fictional knowledge of vampires. Well, The Arts Centre Gold Coast is throwing it back, way back, to the pointy-toothed dude that started it all – Dracula. From August 8–9, the gripping gothic-horror classic will take the stage with an edgy production that will have you slapping your knee with laughter one minute, and clenching your fists in fear the next. Don’t worry, there’s no need to rock up with garlic around your neck … or is there?

We’re all for a fresh take on a classic story – and this bold adaptation of Bram Stoker’s 1897 horror novel by shake & stir theatre co and QPAC is something us modern-day slayers can really sink our teeth into. The twisted tale sees young lawyer Jonathan Harker visit Castle Dracula deep within the Carpathian mountains, before being met with rather strange hospitality from his mysterious host. Jonathon is trapped and alone in the castle, and soon realises that Dracula wants far more than just his presence at the dinner table (cue scary vampire track).

Without giving away too much, Dracula leaves Jonathon for dead and travels to London on a quest of seduction, love, and … blood. The theatrical version of Dracula is being brought to the stage in spectacular fashion by the multi-award winning shake & stir theatre co. The national touring production of Dracula hits The Arts Centre Gold Coast on Tuesday August 8 and Wednesday August 9 – if you’re fanging for a good dose of horror mixed with a splash of humour, then head over here to grab your tickets. You might want to leave the night light on when you get home, just saying.
