Everything old is new again at Donna Marcus’ art exhibition at Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach
It’s easy to get excited by new things, but those old items at the very back of your kitchen cupboards could be works of art, according to south-east Queensland artist Donna Marcus.
Donna Marcus has captivated art enthusiasts around the world with her unique eye for turning ordinary homewares and everyday items into extraordinary works of art. The celebrated artist has recently returned to the Gold Coast, giving locals the chance to marvel at her latest works across two must-see exhibitions.
Radiate at HOTA has been delighting gallery goers all summer, showcasing a collection of Donna’s significant pieces over 20 years of her practice. A second exhibition, Ripple, is now on display at Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach to complement the major exhibition at HOTA, featuring a series of carefully selected pieces from the artist’s coveted archive. Guests and visitors are able to spot the collection of eye-popping works in the reception and foyer spaces of the hotel, with the colourful installations celebrating the Gold Coast beachside lifestyle.
At first glance you will see Donna’s art as a beautiful colourful installation, but look closer and you will see the vintage homewares and pre-loved utensils she has collected and used to create it. From teapots and colanders to pots and pans of all shapes and sizes, these items make up a kaleidoscope of colour in Donna’s work, with every item adding to the story behind the art. Be it industrial or domestic aesthetics, Donna has a way of evoking memories and depicting historical moments in her work, with deep emotion sparked by the day-to-day items.
Fans of Donna’s work and those curious about her vibrant trash-to-treasure collections can check out Radiate at HOTA and Ripple at Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach for free until Sunday April 28, 2024.
