Cooly Classic set to bring swimmers to Kirra Beach

One of the most anticipated events on the Gold Coast sporting calendar is the annual Cooly Classic. Hundreds of die-hard swimmers will be competing against each other to see who can best tackle the Gold Coast’s surf breaks.

Surf-swimming isn’t for the faint of heart. While you may consider yourself a bit of an aquatic animal in your local pool, tackling the waves of Kirra Beach is another story entirely. The Cooly Classic is the Gold Coast’s largest surf-swimming event that is open to the public. On Sunday March 29, hundreds of swimmers will head to Coolangatta to compete for a hefty amount of prize money.

There are three options for those looking to compete. First is the two-kilometre Cooly Classic race, which will take competitors from Snapper Rocks to Kirra Beach, second is the one-kilometre swim from Coolangatta to Kirra Beach and finally is the 300 metre Nippers Surf Dash for kids aged eight years and older. Head to the Icon Events website to register.
