Gold Coast theatre company The Farm brings Cockfight to The Arts Centre
It’s time to strap yourselves in, because the geniuses behind Gold Coast theatre company The Farm are at it again. The latest production is called Cockfight, and it’s been described as ‘an episode of The Office mixed with a cage fight’. Sounds pretty darn intriguing, right? Well, the production is about to head off on an international tour, but we’re lucky enough to have a hometown premiere at The Arts Centre Gold Coast with an exclusive series of shows to hit the stage from September 13–16.
So, here’s a little run down on what to expect. Cockfight is a two-man show that depicts the generational power struggle between two office workers – it’s all about the power play between men, and is said to really push the boundaries of physical theatre. The show has had rave reviews after hitting the stage in Melbourne and Brisbane – and after it hits the Gold Coast, The Farm will take Cockfight on an international tour.
The production stars The Farm’s renowned co-artistic director and Sidney Myer Performing Arts Award recipient Gavin Webber, alongside the talented Joshua Thompson, who play the ‘two blokes in the office’. One is older, one is younger – and what starts as a subtle battle, then bursts into a dangerously physical confrontation. The story of two men basically fighting it out to be ‘top dog’ is told through extraordinary athleticism and dark humour, whilst balancing comical, combative and tender elements at the same time. Cockfight is being held at The Arts Centre Gold Coast from Wednesday September 13 through to Saturday September 16.
If you can’t resist the magic created by the team from The Farm, then you’d best nab tickets to this one quick smart. Head over here to book.
