Brisket by the beachside – follow your nose to the annual Burleigh BBQ Championships

Brisket by the beachside – follow your nose to the annual Burleigh BBQ Championships

Don’t be alarmed if you see smoke emerging over the Burleigh Heads beachfront from Saturday August 3 and Sunday August 4, because it’s that time again – the Burleigh BBQ Championship is back in town! The mouth-watering aroma of slow-cooked barbecued meats will fill the air as a bunch of Australia’s best barbecue teams go head to head in Ed Hardy Park.

Now, this barbecue business is pretty serious stuff. The teams will battle it out using ‘low and slow’ and barbecue-cooking techniques across five categories – chicken, lamb, pork ribs, beef and seafood. Did you just drool a bit? Same. You’ll be able to catch the theatrics of the pit yard from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday and from 6:00 am Sunday, with the barbecue masters on hand to school you on their state-of-the-art equipment as the meats slowly cook away.

For those interested in home-smoking, there will be a trade area where you can research and buy all the fancy equipment you need to recreate the goodness in your own backyard. Of course, you can fuel up from a bunch of tasty barbecue-inspired food trucks and grab a beer from the pop-up bar, plus there will be a line-up of top local musicians taking the stage throughout the weekend, including The Lyrical, Felicity Lawless and Benny D Williams. Entry is free, so grab a picnic blanket, bring your appetite, and head to The Esplanade to catch the Burleigh Heads BBQ Championships on August 3–4.
