Get out your Aussie flags – Brisbane to host the 2032 Olympics
The announcement we’ve all been eagerly anticipating has finally arrived – Brisbane has been officially named as the host of the 2032 Olympics! Someone get Nikki Webster on speed dial.
We’ve done it, Queensland! Our city has been named as the 2032 host of perhaps the most iconic sporting event in the world – the Olympics. The announcement has been delivered as the 2021 Olympics kick off in Tokyo and Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk visits Japan’s capital city. Brisbane will be the third Australian city to host the games, the first being Melbourne in 1956 and Sydney in 2000, which saw iconic sporting moments like Cathy Freeman winning the 400-metre gold, Ian Thorpe aka the Thorpedo tearing up the pool, and the unforgettable moment a 13-year old stole everyone’s hearts at the opening ceremony.
Brisbane’s Olympic games will take place between July 23 and August 8, 2032 at a range of venues in not just Brisbane, but in the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast. A bunch of upgrades to existing sporting facilities and new developments will become part of the preparation for the mammoth event, including a major upgrade for The Gabba as well as two Olympic villages that will house the competing athletes.
