Be spellbound by BIG CITY LIGHTS* – an immersive visual spectacle coming to the Gold Coast this July

You might find it hard to believe, but there was once a time the Gold Coast was considered void of culture. Crazy, right?! Thankfully, the times have changed, perceptions have been challenged and the Gold Coast is continuing to thrive, attracting events from all around the world. The latest large-scale event to announce its impending arrival in this fine city of ours is BIG CITY LIGHTS* – an immersive festival that brings together light, design, installation and live performance. Here’s everything you need to know …

If you’ve been lucky enough to witness a version of BIG CITY LIGHTS* as part of the city’s preeminent cultural showcase BLEACH* Festival, you know you’re in for a treat. If not, allow us – BIG CITY LIGHTS* is a dazzling spectacle of light and sound. Optical wizardry transforms various public spaces and buildings into unexpected backdrops for hypnotic projections. Set to a thrilling soundtrack, the light pulses, morphs and dances, creating a sensory feast that will linger in your memory long after the last light flickers.

This July, BIG CITY LIGHTS* will deliver an incredible four-night festival of light, live music, colour and creativity. The cutting-edge program will feature immersive audio-visual experiences, large-scale digital works, 3D-mapping and unexpected projection sites that will transform the Gold Coast’s everyday urban spaces. Audiences can enjoy this free-for-everyone, public night-time exhibition across the four-day event, which will transform building facades and laneways into living, breathing works of art by leading local and national artists in the fields of light, installation, architecture and digital design. Suffice to say, we’re excited!

BIG CITY LIGHTS* will be delivered by Placemakers* Gold Coast, with a program that highlights the Gold Coast as a cultural destination to the rest of Australia and the world. The festival is set to light up the night sky from July 7–10. Join the mailing list here for event updates.
