Pencil these free gigs into your diary – Touch Sensitive, Running Touch and Savage are heading to Live on The Lawn
If we had to name just one thing that we really missed during the pandemic, it would have to be live music. Sure, we yearned for nights out to dinner, parties with friends and the chance to hop on a plane, but the electricity that comes with soaking up live music in person is a feeling that cannot be replicated. Thankfully, the legends at Garden Kitchen & Bar felt the same yearning for live tunes and continue to serve up plenty of good vibrations and free headline acts, as part of Bacardi’s Live on The Lawn. More than just your average free gig at the local, Live on The Lawn has called in the big guns of Australian music to help you make up for time lost to lockdowns. So, if you’re in desperate need of a boogie and are keen to experience the thrill of seeing an artist IRL, be sure to schedule these events in your diary for autumn.
Kicking off the slew of sweet free beats is a DJ set from Touch Sensitive on Saturday May 28. Hailing from Sydney, Touch Sensitive returns with his first official release since 2013. His latest song, ‘Lay Down’ combines the sky-high falsetto of the 80s disco tunes with the rhythmic dynamism of his frenetic live performances. You’ll likely recognise some of his previous hit songs like ‘Pizza Guy‘ and ‘No Other High‘, which serve up catchy beats that you can’t help but groove to. Touch Sensitive is the ultimate triple threat as an artist, continuing to polish his skills as a producer, live performer and DJ. After collaborating alongside Flume and touring with Flight Facilities, Touch Sensitive is gracing the Gold Coast with a DJ set full of ear hooks that will have you dancing on The Lawn long into the night.
Next up at Live on The Lawn on Saturday June 4 is a DJ set from Running Touch, a Melbourne-based musician constantly pushing the boundaries of his work. Fresh off the release of his debut album, Carmine, in early May, Running Touch continues to redefine the limits of his music, curating genre-morphing and intricate tracks. Considered a master of all trades, Running Touch effortlessly moulds heavy rock experimentalism with fragments of electronica and pop. The result? Sultry hits like ‘My Hands‘ and ‘When I’m Around You‘. Since making his entrance onto the music scene, Running Touch has amassed more than 150 million streams, gained multi-platinum accreditations and received an APRA Award nomination for his collaboration with Hayden James. While Running Touch tours around the country to play a round of headline shows, we are lucky enough to witness him live and for free at The Star.
Last but certainly not least in the line-up of gifted gentlemen gracing the stage is Savage. While you may not recognise his face, the Kiwi artist is the iconic voice behind four-time-platinum-selling dance record ‘Swing‘ with Joel Fletcher and the viral radio smash hit ‘Freaks‘ with Timmy Trumpet. Not only is ‘Freaks’ a bonafide global dance anthem, but it has causally gained more than half a billion streams. Savage has also sold more than two million records as a hip-hop artist. You’ll want to strap into your dancing shoes for this one and get ready to swing those hips to Savage’s DJ set on Saturday June 11.
Each headline act will kick off at 8:30 pm, with house DJs warming up the deck beforehand. We recommend heading to Garden Kitchen & Bar early so that you can grab one of its signature cocktails and a bite to eat from Container Kitchen, which is conveniently located right next to the dance floor. That means you don’t have to miss any of the action for your mid-dance snack – think bites such as Goan spiced prawn skewers, fried cheeseburger dumplings and a selection of delectable tacos. Now that’s the kind of live music energy we’ve been craving!
