Art gets hot at 2970° The Boiling Point

Ever wondered what would happen if you put artists, scientists, architects, social activists, thinkers and agents of change in a room together? Well wonder no more, 2970° The Boiling Point is doing just that.

Named after the boiling point for gold, 2970° The Boiling Point will interrogate the space where arts, science, technology, architecture, politics and culture meet over three thought-provoking days from June 26 to June 28. The one-of-a-kind symposium is being curated by internationally renowned artist and director of pioneering interdisciplinary arts company, Not Yet It’s Difficult (NYID), David Pledger, and will feature keynote addresses from five innovative thinkers across genres. The keynote speakers include Professor Stelarc, known for his unconventional performance art (surgically constructing an ear on his arm), Doctor Daniel Glaser, a neuroscientist who has worked to promote public engagement with science, Liam Young, an Australian-trained architect who operates in the spaces between design, fiction and futures, Alex Kelly, filmmaker, producer and activist and Alex Monteith, a visual artist making projects in coastal and extreme geographies.

Each of the speakers will present ideas as provocations that will be accompanied by an exhibition and performance program as well as paradigm changing conversations. Local artists and cultural operators from the Gold Coast including director of Bleach* Festival, Louise Bezzina, local author, Tim Baker, and award-winning artist, Chris Bennie will also weigh in and respond to the keynote presentations. 2970° The Boiling Point is being presented by the City of Gold Coast and tickets are selling fast. Indulge your curious mind and jump over to The Arts Centre Gold Coast’s website to secure your place but before you do, have a read of our chat with the event’s curator David Pledger.
