The Gold Coast’s newest retail and foodie hub gets the green light
Prolific developers Sunland Group has received approval for a visionary new food-oriented retail village at the heart of its masterplanned community The Lakes at Mermaid Waters. The impressive new 7500 sqm precinct on the corner of Hooker Boulevard and Bermuda Street is set to feature open-air laneways interwoven with a fresh food hall, cafes, restaurants (including two rooftop venues), bars, a health and wellbeing precinct, office space and a lakeside community Green. Here’s what we know so far …
Designed by Queensland architectural firm Blight Rayner in collaboration with Sunland Group’s award-winning in-house design team, The Lanes Retail Village will embrace a boutique retail aesthetic. Intricate brickwork and captivating arbours will be framed by lush, cascading greenery, urban laneways and open spaces – sounds dreamy, right? The fresh food hall (which we’re particularly excited about) is inspired by the bustling food markets of Europe and will feature an eye-catching seven-metre high timber ceiling to adequately showcase a selection of fresh produce, specialty foods and local artisans. The precinct will also bring to life some exciting new eateries as well as two new rooftop venues that will no doubt be a haven for residents of the 42 hectare community to congregate.
At the heart of The Lanes Retail Village will be an expansive 3500 sqm lakeside green that has been designed as a community gathering space set to host a range of seasonal events, markets and activities for families. The masterplan also includes a health and wellness component complete with a medical centre, pharmacy and allied health services. Construction is anticipated to commence in coming months and is scheduled for completion in late 2022. Keep your peepers peeled here for updates but we’ll have all of the foodie news for you as it comes to hand. Watch this space.
