The Calile Hotel scores development approval for its new resort in Noosa Heads

After two years of community consultations and council recommendations, the development application for The Calile Noosa has been approved. Work on the Richard’s & Spence-designed hotel will begin in early 2025, with the anticipated high-end accommodation destination expected to boast 153 rooms, 29 suites and four villas.

With its striking design, high-quality service, inimitable ammenities and commitment to sustainability, The Calile Hotel has quickly become one of the most desirable destinations in the Southern Hemisphere. It has helped to cement Brisbane – and more specifically, James Street – as a much-visit destination to travellers far and wide, and has been recognised in the World’s 50 Best Hotels and named Best Hotel in Oceania for two consecutive years.

In huge news for the Sunshine Coast, Calile Malouf Investments (CMI) has earned approval from Noosa Council to build a brand-new integrated resort adjacent to the Noosa River, on a 2.4-hectare site located at 3–7 Serenity Close. Surrounded by bushland, the site was selected for its natural beauty, with a strong community spirit also credited as a deciding factor in CMI’s decision to expand north.

“We worked collaboratively with the Noosa Council and fine-tuned the scheme to ensure we addressed the planning scheme and community expectations,” said The Calile co-owner and CMI director Michael Malouf in a statement. “Resort sites are often at risk of being ceded to multinational hotel companies who impose incongruous designs and standards upon the local community. By contrast, The Calile is a home-grown Southeast Queensland brand with an implicit understanding of the local culture, climate, community, demographic and attributes.”

CMI has once again enlisted the services of award-winning architecture practice Richard’s & Spence to spearhead the new resort’s design. The Calile Noosa’s aesthetic will be informed by its location, with the resort expected to comprise of 153 rooms (the standard room being a minimum of 45 sqm), 29 suites and four three-bedroom villas. The hotel will also boast a 50-metre main swimming pool, a second quiet pool in a private garden setting, comprehensive wellness facilities and function spaces.

The Calile Noosa development will also look to implement carbon-neutral operations, which will feature as part of a broader sustainability strategy.

Work on the project will commence in early 2025, with Buildcorp tasked with the resort’s three-year construction program. We’ll have updates for you as the build progresses.
