Byron Bay’s Sit Still Lauren turns mud into magic

There’s something about handmade ceramic pieces that makes you smile. Perhaps it’s knowing that at one point, this beautifully raw piece was actually just a slab of mud. Though, when this slab gets into the right set of hands, magic can happen. Byron Bay’s Lauren Campbell has one of those sets of hands, creating a distinctive collection of ceramic wares under her namesake business, Sit Still Lauren.

Based in the Byron Bay hinterland, Lauren Campbell has developed a style that is bright, functional and fun. The distinctive ‘drips’ and bold colours create contrast again raw textures and tones, resulting in edgy pieces for the home. The Sit Still Lauren collection features everything from the humble water pitcher to pots, vases, plates, mugs and bowls. Whilst unique in design, the pieces remain practical.

Lauren grew up in Sydney’s northern beaches, and currently resides in the green side of Byron Bay, so it will come as no surprise that she finds her inspiration from either the ocean or driving through the countryside. In an unfortunate twist, Lauren lost her studio in the Lismore floods earlier this year – yet she, and her two hands, remained safe and are slowly getting back into turning, throwing and creating the Sit Still Lauren magic. You can check out pieces at Nikau at Newrybar Merchants, Jones & Co in Brunswick Heads and Thrills Co. in Byron Bay. Head online for a peek at the goodness.
