Get your hands dirty at POT – the Gold Coast’s dreamy new pottery studio
If you’ve always wanted to try pottery but never really knew where to start, then here’s your chance. POT is a new teaching studio and pottery workspace that has just opened its doors in Tugun, aiming to spread the passion for handmade wares far and wide.
POT is the brainchild of renowned local ceramicist Cindy Hamrey, who is also a serving Police Officer with the QPS. Cindy opened POT studios to provide a creative space that offered courses for everyone from total beginners (as in, those of us who only came across the pottery wheel after seeing Ghost) through to the more skilled potters seeking a communal studio space.
There are a series of different workshops offered. You can get the creative juices flowing with a three-hour INSPIRE pottery workshop (great with a group of friends), or step up and enrol in the four-week THROW (potter’s wheel throwing) or HAND (hand-building pottery) courses. Once you’ve completed one of the four-week courses, you can continue on to the MAKE sessions, where you can book three-hour blocks in the studio with full use of the equipment and supervision from a pottery mentor. Keen to get your hands dirty and create some magic? Check out POT studios online and follow the journey on Instagram.
