The Mysa Motel transforms an iconic Palm Beach pitstop into a sustainable and boutique holiday pad
The Gold Coast has always been a popular destination for sun-soaked holidays and staycations (even before they were a thing), with the classic roadside motel etched in many childhood memories. One such southern Gold Coast icon has been given a new lease on life as a sustainable, boutique luxury accommodation for an entirely new generation to stay and play. Ladies and gents, allow us to introduce you to the stunning new The Mysa Motel (pronounced Mee-sa) in Palm Beach – we have a feeling it will be filling your Insta-feed for a long time to come.
Like many of the roadside motels scattered along the Gold Coast Highway, the old Palm Trees Motel in Palm Beach had begun to look a little tired. Thankfully, the old girl caught the eye of husband-and-wife duo Eliza and Jason Raine who had grand plans to revamp rather than rebuild. The seven-room oasis has done away with some of the building’s more outdated elements, instead favouring retro design cues such as breeze blocks, neon lights and some pretty pink banana-shaped sun lounges that are simply begging for sundowners by the pool. Speaking of, The Mysa Motel’s distinctive kidney-shaped pool is infused with magnesium so you can feel good about whiling away a weekend by the water.
The Mysa Motel’s revamp has taken two long years to complete with the creative couple enlisting local tradespeople and designers to help reuse, restore and remodel. Upcycling has formed a cornerstone of the renovation, with Eliza and Jason committed to reinventing an icon with as minimal impact as possible. To this end, The Mysa Motel has installed rainwater tanks for toilets and gardens and solar panels for energy, and all rooms offer filtered water so guests can fill reusable water bottles.
