Kaffeeform turns coffee grounds into cups
As coffee consumption worldwide continues to grow, it stands to reason that so too does the waste it creates. One German company, Kaffeeform, is turning discarded coffee grounds into fine looking coffee cups.
If you’ve ever pondered what happens to all of the used coffee grounds from your local cafe, you’re not alone. Designer Julian Lechner had this same thought but instead of moving on to the next conundrum, he spent five years creating a formula that transforms coffee grounds into a durable, recycled material that can be used to make every day items. The clever material is called Kaffeeform.
To demonstrate the boundless possibilities of this new material, Julian created Kaffeeform coffee cups; cups that are literally made from used coffee grounds. The rustic cups have the appearance of dark marblewood and an ingrained coffee aroma, a nod to its origins. The pieces are lightweight, washable and durable and so they are ideal for repeated coffee consumption.
