Proposed new amphitheatre for Gold Coast Cultural Precinct

A new concept for the Gold Coast Cultural Precinct’s Stage 1 amphitheatre has been presented to council as an alternative to The Splash design that was unveiled earlier this year.

Forming an integral part of the landscape, the revised concept for the amphitheatre will deliver a seamless green connection between the existing The Arts Centre Gold Coast and the planned riverside hub that features transitional visual arts galleries. The new garden theatre-style concept was unanimously recommended in the Special Budget Committee meeting and will now go before full Council.

The proposed versatile outdoor space will still be purpose-built with a flexible capacity of 850 to 5,000 people, with the opportunity to bump in equipment for larger performances. The new concept also includes landscaping over the stage and wings, with potential for grassed observation areas, picnic spots, play equipment and areas for artistic activation. Work on Stage 1 is scheduled to begin early in 2016, with completion by 2018. Stay up to date with the latest progress at the Gold Coast Cultural Precinct website.
