Gather around and listen to records on a sleek audio unit from Fort Kingsley
There’s something inherently special about sinking into a chair and listening to a record with a wine in hand. The unmistakable crackle of the vinyl, the mild inconvenience of having to get up to physically change sides, the feeling that time is somewhat superfluous – it becomes an experience rather than just background music. If you also possess an appreciation for the experience or have a keen eye for design, take a peek at Fort Kingsley’s beautiful new take on the classic audio consoles of yesteryear.
Gold Coaster Liam McCallion has always loved the old consoles from the 60s that had the record player built-in. He loved the way they commanded pride of place in living rooms and brought families and friends together to listen to music. But, like all things technology-related, eventually the consoles were replaced by smaller and smaller units until one day, manufacturers stopped making them all together. Saddened but also inspired, Liam set out to create a piece for his own home that combined his three passions – music, timber and design. He wanted to bring back some of the nostalgia from the old-style consoles but integrate it with modern technology, the result is a thing of beauty as well as functionality.
