Trawl the bounty of pop-up shops on this weekend
The season of giving is officially upon us and weekend shopping time is running out as we lead up to the big jolly day. Luckily, many local makers and shops are hosting pop-up events this weekend so you can get your presents wrapped and ready under the tree.
This Thursday December 12, Nook in West End is open late 6:00–8:00 pm with discounts and wine to entice you in. The store has also extended trading to include Sundays until Christmas. On Friday December 13, Bleeding Heart Gallery will have its Christmas Market filling the deck, the BrisStyle indie Twilight Market will take over King George Square, and Winn Lane is hosting a late-night Christmas shopping evening, with doors open until 9:00 pm. The next day, you can roll back to the laneway precinct for the last Yard Sale of the year, running 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Expect vintage, books, bric-a-brac and all the usual colourful Winn Lane wares.
Saturday also sees Vieille Branche open the doors of its new warehouse space in Albion for a Christmas Market from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. With stalls bursting with artisan goodness, the market day will feature Marssi, Mossy Antlers, Nico Underwear and The Rabbit Hole Ideation Cafe among other Vieille Branche friends. IncStamp is also presenting a special PINT SIZE Market in West End from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, showcasing a range of local artists and filling post-shopping ravenous stomachs with hearty barbecue fare and Benchmark coldpress coffee.
On Sunday December 15, Kristina Chelberg and Louise Lindgren (of looseleaf.paper) will open the studios doors for a pop-up fete from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm in New Farm. Expect handmade stationery, jewellery, bags, paper goods, ceramics, linen, books and vintage commodities, paired morning tea deliciousness. Our own Captured photographer Emily Nelson is also hosting a Tropical Christmas Pop-Up Shop on Sunday from 3:00–6:00 pm, featuring all of her illustrative creations – Christmas cards, tags and artwork prints.
And on any day that takes your fancy, head along to White Label Noba’s pop-up shop at 76 James Street or Haut Boheme’s new temporary den at 7/65 James Street. For those who find the above selection far too overwhelming, Black & Spiro has just launched an online store, meaning you can kick back at the computer and shop for your loved ones in air-conditioned comfort at home.
