Cut and paste with a collage from Little Land of Pia

The concept of collage may take you back to the joys of craft time in preschool and artworks riddled with stickmen and glitter. Taking a more adult approach to this line of craft (but no less colourful) is former Melbournite Pia Blair, who creates abstract collages full of texture and iconography.

After a childhood spent in rural Victoria and a number of years in Melbourne, Pia ditched cold winters for the bright lights of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. Finding inspiration in these travels, as well as her preference for the kitsch and nostalgic, she began to collage. Created by the nimble fingers on her own two hands, each piece bursts with stamps, textiles and neon splashes, which interlace with kooky imagery of furniture, animals and Queen Elizabeth II. Pia uses a mixture of traditional collage techniques, hand screen-printing, spray paint and stickers to form the artwork.

You can follow Pia’s travels and latest creations on her blog and facebook page.

Little Land of Pia can be found at The Robe in Paddington.
