The Weekly Special: The Weekend Edition team’s top picks for the week

It's been a wild couple of months staying indoors, with the world around us in a state that we've never seen in our lifetime. The Weekend Edition has been with you every step of the way, from dissecting confusing restriction advice to telling you just how many 80s-style aerobic workouts you can do from your lounge room. As Queensland starts to reopen to Queenslanders, we're in a bit of a state of limbo – we're allowed out, we're starting to regain a bit of the life we used to live, but with restrictions around us. For us, our mandatory slow down has been a bit of a blessing in disguise – it's encouraged us to stop and reflect on things we've perhaps been too busy to notice or do in the past. We've had more 'me time', which has allowed us to discover and engage with new things. This is something we are making an effort to continue to do as we slowly reemerge into the outside… more

Need a ride? Uber is trialling world-first Uber Rent right here in Brisbane

One of the best things about city living is not having to own a car and keep on top of rego, maintenance and insurance of said car. Well, fellow city dwellers, we have some excellent news, in a world first, the renowned ride-sharing service Uber is trialling Uber Rent – a new feature that allows users to rent a car directly through the app.  more

Yes, friends, we can officially bust out of isolation and explore this great state and what better way to do that than with a picnic with a couple of cheeky alpacas? That was rhetorical, obviously, because there is literally no better way to celebrate the easing restrictions. more

We're not going to beat around the bush here – it's cold outside and there's a global pandemic going on, so that's more than enough reason for us to get cosy, crack a red, order food from our favourite restaurant(s) and settle in for a solid session of TV time. Sounds pretty excellent doesn't it? The only problem with that plan is that with so many different streaming services available, just finding something good to watch can be half the battle. Plus, iso means we're reallllyyyy churning through those series faster than ever before. Well friends, good news. Forget working from home when you can work in luxury at QT Gold Coast

At the start of this whole covid crisis, the thought of working from home was great – no commute, snacks all day and the freedom to wear (or not wear) whatever you damn well please (providing you didn't have any annoying Zoom meetings scheduled). But as the weeks roll on, the sheen of WFH (working from home, in case you missed it), has well and truly worn off. The snacks are gone, it's too cold not to wear pants and the temptation to watch a few eps of Judge Judy during work time is proving impossible to resist. If you need a little break from your own iso-office/home jail, QT Gold Coast invites you to WFH – work from hotel, that is. more

A new Spotify plug-in has just been released that will reveal your most-streamed songs during the coronavirus isolation period – so it’s time to face the music! more

How to support the local Brisbane arts and music scene during the coronavirus crisis

Brisbane, right now our beloved music and arts industry (among others) is in crisis. All over the world, musicians are being forced to cancel concerts and tours left and right to try to curb the spread of coronavirus. Industry bodies are tallying losses over $200 million in Australia's music scene alone, and there will be more to come. While public health is paramount, the cancellations have affected everyone from artists to crew, management, promoters, agents, vendors, publicists, merchandisers, drivers, loaders, riggers and everyone else who relied on live events for their income. Visual artists have also taken a heavy hit to their ability to generate a living with city-wide gallery closures forcing the cancellation of upcoming exhibitions. We're all facing a tough road ahead but if you are in a position to help, here are a few ways you can show your support to Brisbane's struggling… more

Yin and yang – One Body Studio bridges the gap between fitness and mindfulness

When it comes to health and fitness facilities, there tends to be two kinds. First is the traditional gym housed in a gigantic warehouse, filled wall-to-wall with very serious-looking machines and racks of dumbbells, kettlebells and medicine balls and 'Eye of the Tiger' blasting on repeat. Then there's the other kind, the kind that is filled with yoga mats and calming music. Like the kid from the taco commercial, Vanessa Cribb took elements of both, combining the best parts into one health-focused venue. Enter One Body Studio.  more
