The scaffolding has come down and the signage is illuminated – it’s not long now until James Street welcomes The Calile to its midst officially. Ahead of the luxury hotel’s opening, the building’s ground-floor retail portion has come to life. Several high-end boutiques and Queensland firsts are welcoming hordes of shoppers this week, with many more to come.

Before we can experience the luxury of The Calile’s accommodation facilities and gourmet dining options, the new James Street hub is opening the doors to several of its anticipated retail boutiques. As of right now, several retailers are already open, including bassike, Dion Lee, Bec + Bridge, Camilla and Marc, and Venroy, while Love Stories will be open on Friday September 14. Each shop has been imbued with personality and individual style to match the wares on offer. bassike’s light-filled store has unveiled its hyper-modern space designed in collaboration with Akin Atelier, while Camilla and Marc has also worked with Akin Atelier for its space – an extension of the label’s founder’s sensibilities with plush furniture, marble and minimalist trimmings. Bec + Bridge’s space boasts a chic pastel pink fit-out complete with leather couches and arched ceilings, while Love Stories have crafted a boutique boasting warm suede and washed linen, paired with concrete, neon, floating metal racks and tinted Plexiglas detailing.

The coming weeks and months will see more retailers open to the public, including the likes of James Street fixtures Mister ZimiAndronis Fine Jewellery, Wolfe and Ordnance, Carla Zampatti and Calexico Man – all of which are relocating to The Calile’s retail hub. The Calile Hotel will open for bookings in late September, followed closely by the arrival of The Calile’s own Lobby Bar, before Simon Gloftis’ Greek restaurant Hellenika opens in October. Stay tuned to The Weekend Edition over the coming months for a closer look at James Street’s landmark arrival.
