SÜK Workwear delivers ethical clothing for hard-working women
If you happen to be female and have a physically demanding job (the kind that is traditionally dominated by men) or generally like to get your hands dirty, say hello to SÜK Workwear’s range of stylish-yet-functional boilersuits, overalls, work pants and work shorts that are designed to help everybody feel strong in their skin.
Having spent her twenties on building sites, farms and long-haul ships, Mimosa Schmidt knows what it means to get her hands dirty. As a result of her experience, Mimosa also knows all about the standard issue, ill fitting, chaffing clothing that is expected in such roles, not to mention the feeling of being overlooked from the get go and having to work twice as hard to earn the respect others are given freely. Slogging it out one day in sagging overalls and a baggy work shirt, Mimosa began dreaming up designs that would empower women on worksites and breakdown gender bias. In July 2019, SÜK Workwear dropped its debut collection that celebrates all workers as worthy. The name SÜK (pronounced sook) also happens to be a not-so-subtle middle finger to the people who believed her gender implied weakness.
The SÜK range champions the feminine form and was founded on the vision of giving women in physical jobs an alternative. The collection isn’t just for worksites though – SÜK provides quality, practical, ethical and stylish workwear for feminine identities from all walks of life, from tradies to creatives. The fabric is human- and eco-friendly, vegan and free from harmful chemicals. Each garment is crafted by ethical manufacturers in Pakistan and is delivered in biodegradable and home compostable packaging.
