Stone and Metal showcases new collection
Local metalsmith Samantha Anderson has been hard at work crafting her winter collection MING, which can now be spotted gracing the shelves of Fortitude Valley boutique and gallery Stone and Metal.
The MING collection is one of the largest that Samantha has produced, which has been handcrafted in her Brisbane-based studio. Inspired by foreign cultures, the new jewellery collection is shaped by Samantha’s love of the orient and the history and stories in jewellery, carvings and stones. Organic shapes and textures are reflected in bold tactile pieces, including necklaces, earrings and bracelets, while delicate and finely detailed pieces are also a mainstay in the collection.
Embracing the imperfections found in precious and semi-precious stones, Samantha is a master of handcrafting pieces that fuse a selection of different materials. Traditional silversmithing techniques are combined with natural materials within the MING collection, such as seeds, bone and gems, which are carved into elaborate and finely detailed shapes incorporating dragons, birds and fish. Jade, pietersite and aventurine hang as pendants in sterling silver necklaces, while bone, agate, seeds and opal are strung together in bracelets and incorporated into earring designs.
