So spring it hurts – what we’re digging in the new season

Wake up and smell the frosé – the calendar has ticked over to September, heralding the arrival of everyone’s favourite season. We’re here to throw some shade a la Meryl in The Devil Wears Prada when she drops the knowledge that spring isn’t just about florals, girl. Make the most of this glorious transition period where the weather is balmy and breezy but not so hot that you feel like you’re walking on the sun (no offence, Smash Mouth) by taking the chance to get playful. We’ve done some digging to find the things you’ll be, uh, digging in the coming months – from beauty hacks to style cues, this list is springier than a mattress factory.

Pom-pom errything
Pop quiz time: what’s the quickest and easiest way to add some pep to any outfit? The answer, pals, is pom-poms. These universal signifiers of joy are having a total moment, breaking up basics and adding bursts of colour and texture. Indulge in some light crafting and customise existing pieces in your wardrobe, or go straight to the source with these Wittner‘s latest offerings.

TWe-sahspring-jazzybrowJazzy brows
The brows maketh the babe, and these are damn fancy. This sweet new trend (as seen on Queen Gigi modelling for Giambattista Valli) takes the word highlighting to another level, embracing the natural brow defined boldly with a swoosh of glitter. This is a strong look with some serious 90s body-glitter nostalgia, but we are living for it. On another beauty note, a hot tip to keep your face in place as the weather heats up is the genius Nivea post-shave balm primer hack – $10 for melt-free makeup is a solid investment.

TWE-sahspring-romanceEnchanting enhancement
For the nights that still have a little nip in the air, a cheeky light jacket is the perfect answer. Keep an eye out for designers that have gone the extra mile with embellishments – you can always rely on Gorman for an out-there print, and Romance was Born are absolutely killing it with this knockout applique number (pictured above).

TWE-sahspring-embellishedpartsA hairy situation
Spring is the perfect excuse to shake it up when it comes to your tresses. Add pizzazz to your part with some embellishment – it’s also a very sneaky but totally chic way to distract from any potential regrowth situation that may have accumulated over winter. Ribbons are making a bit of a comeback, with the cool kids wearing them cinched at the nape of the neck for a chic ponytail. As for colour, the tone that everyone’s talking about is grey – expect to see steely locks popping up more regularly than at your nana’s retirement home.

TWE-sahspring-roseRosé coloured glasses
In addition to being a most delicious flavoured beverage, rosé is the shade of the season. Doesn’t everything look a little bit dreamier in this dusty hue? Dubbed into the Modern Romantic colour palette, we’re picking up the scent. Think sweet sheer fabrics, dewy blush and frilly socks for some inspo. Go full fancy lady and block out the haters with these Rad & Refined good vibes specs.

TWE-sahspring-fentyRun this town
There are certain powerful females in pop culture who are noted for their ability to slay literally everything, and one such figure is eternal swoon Rihanna. You may not be able to actually be her (dammit science!) but you can channel some of her epic powers by shopping Fenty, her super-slick Puma collab inspired by badass Japanese street culture.
TWe-sahspring-tissuesBONUS MENTION: Tissues for your issues
As much as flowers are delightful, they can also be a harbinger of pain for those prone to a bit of midseason hayfever. Those beautiful spring breezes also mean that the pollen in the air is getting all up in your sinuses, and sniffling up a constant stream ain’t cute. Besides stocking up on all of the antihistamines, we advise investing in a snazzy tissue dispenser that will bring at least a sliver of joy when you’re sneezing up a storm.
