Stow your stuff in a stylish (and sustainable) bag from Simétrie
It was a case of once you know, you know for Melbourne’s Simone Agius. Working in the industry, Simone became increasingly dissatisfied with fast fashion and the devastating impact our fashion choices were having on makers as well as the environment and set out to source an alternative. She sought to strike more of a balance between aesthetics and ethics and so began the Simétrie story. If you appreciate minimalist design, sustainable materials and honest production, read on.
Simétrie offers a tightly curated collection of bags and accessories for the conscious consumer. Handcrafted and designed in Melbourne, Simétrie’s latest offering is inspired by the natural geometry of the moon and designs range from uniquely shaped shoulder bags, fun bag charms, zip purses, card wallets, statement evening clutches as well as the perfect commuter laptop tote that converts into a backpack. The pieces are made from vegetable-tanned wild Australian kangaroo leather, which is sourced from wildlife management (as opposed to farm-bred animals), sustainably sourced hemp canvas, water-based glues and dyes and, where possible, natural threads.
In addition to bags and accessories, Simétrie is also empowering consumers to be part of the process with a series of bag-making workshops from Simone’s Brunswick-based studio. The intention behind the classes is that when you create something, you treasure it for longer, if not forever. Simétrie also offers complimentary repairs for the life of the bags so you can be guaranteed the craftsmanship is top notch so you can love it for longer. If you can’t make it to Melbourne for a class, take a peek at Simétrie’s beautiful (and ethical) range online.
