Shop for a cause at Under a Tree Clothing Exchange
Born from a determination to improve the quality of life for women throughout the world, as well as address the issue of clothing waste, is the Under a Tree Clothing Exchange.
Held twice a year, this event encourages women to swap their old items of dress for someone else’s. This good-hearted initiative was formed by Louise Falzon, who also designs under her own sustainable label A Pot of Tea Under a Tree. For the exchange, Louise encourages participants to bring along up to eight items in a good condition for swapping. Unlike many shopping expeditions, this will not be a stressful one – feel free to peruse the racks with a cup of tea in hand and live music playing in the background.
This eco-shopping experience is made all the more worthwhile by the fact that all proceeds of the entry ticket go towards a charity of the event’s choosing. For this particular occasion that $30 will go towards Project Futures: End Sex Trafficking, a not-for-profit organisation that aims to educate and prevent sex trafficking globally.
The next event will be held this Saturday April 21, from 2:00–5:00 pm at New Farm State Primary School Hall. Not only is this event the perfect time to swap some of your clothing duds for something you love, but it has real purpose in its attempt to impact the lives of women less fortunate. Tickets can be bought online here.
