Scarves sneak onto the man style scene

While winter may be over, the scarf is set to remain as an essential accessory – swapping wool for silks and cottons this new season. Knotted at the neck like a modern Left Bank writer, this style accessory can be fashioned from a long or short handkerchief, bandana or small scarf.

Whether worn loose, with the ends draped downwards or tied tightly below your Adam’s apple, each different knot and its position can yield a new unique look. While an off-centred knot evokes European tones, a middle tie makes a strong statement, with the short lengths left poking straight out. Alternatively, tuck the stray ends into the top of your tee or collared button-up. One of the season’s new trends, this edgy look is best worn with a crisp white t-shirt and creatively shaped sunglasses.

Those who fear the intricate maneouverings and formality of a cravat or even a regular Windsor-entwined tie can rest assured that a more relaxed styling of a scarf of silk, cotton or linen cloth will remain secure with a regular square knot.
