The New Farm stretch of Brisbane’s iconic Riverwalk reopens

Local residents were sad to see their beloved Riverwalk float away during the 2011 floods, but the walkway has reopened at last, allowing you to stroll from New Farm to the city with ease.

The Riverwalk holds a special place in the hearts of many Brisbane locals. At any time of day, you’ll find people running, biking or simple strolling in the sunshine, making their way along the shores of our beautiful Brisbane River. Needless to say, at last weekend’s reopening the New Farm stretch of the walk was welcomed with open arms. The newly constructed floating walkway snakes along the Brisbane River from New Farm’s Merthyr Road to the city, with the new structure taking users further out into the river for the majority of the walk. The new Riverwalk has also been built to withstand any potential floods, and features segregated pedestrian and cycle paths.

When strolling down Merthyr Road en route to the Riverwalk, you’ll stumble across New Farm Bikes, where you can browse a new set of wheels to take out on the walkway. At the long-time New Farm local you’ll find cycles from Gazelle, Electra and Urban Bicycles, as well as quirky Nutcase helmets. After making your selection, you can take your new two-wheeled companion and make your way along the river.
