Rekindle your friendship with reusable coffee cups

Rekindle your friendship with reusable coffee cups

While we often have the best intentions when it comes to the environment, sometimes it’s the smallest acts that can have measurable ongoing impacts – such as remembering to grab your reusable coffee cup each morning.

It has been estimated that 2.25 billion paper cups end up in landfill around the world each year and according to JOCO, a purveyor of reusable coffee cups, it takes 50 million trees to generate that amount of paper. With these figures in mind, and the cooler months approaching, we thought it timely to remind ourselves to retrieve our reusable coffee cups from the depths of the kitchen cupboard.

The eco-coffee-cup revolution began in 2009 with the launch of KeepCup – the first barista-standard reusable coffee cup – and continues at the hands of environmentally conscious design savants. Another recent addition to the range of barista-standard eco cups is the rather fetching JOCO cup. Now available at Green Grass Home and Body and Biome, JOCO cups are thoughtfully designed with the science of coffee drinking in mind. The cup is BPA free, its lid prevents splashes, a sleeve keeps the coffee warm and also protects your fingers, and a ‘cyclonic base’ is designed to balance the flavour of your coffee.

Conveniently, many local coffee haunts including Bunker, Brother Espresso and Saabi on Manson also stock reusable takeaway coffee cups, as does The Trading Circle at Paddington.
