Keep it clean and coastal with ethical threads from OneThing

The fast fashion trap is one that almost all of us are guilty of falling victim to at some point – while we might splash out on designer items, the lure of cheap and readily available basics can often be hard to resist. Unfortunately, this throwaway industry is doing some pretty horrible things to our main girl Mother Earth – farmers in parts of China and India predicting the colour of the next fashion season by the colour of their rivers due to run-off from the textile industry. Yikes! Luckily, trading fast for fair is totally doable, and Sydney label OneThing is leading the charge.

After years of working in the retail and fashion industries, Sydneysider Steph became increasingly aware of the seriously damaging effect that fast fashion was having on the planet. This spurred her to create OneThing, an online boutique stocking high quality and ethically made fashion. Just a glance at OneThing’s offering nods to Steph’s coastal roots and inspiration – the store is packed with unique and timeless pieces all made from 100 percent cotton. Monochrome colour palettes and classic stripes adorn relaxed fit pieces such as oversized men’s style shirts, jersey dresses and cropped roll-neck tanks, creating the perfect base for any wardrobe.

As for the design and manufacturing side of things, OneThing upholds a sterling standard of ethical and small-scale production. Steph personally travels to Indonesia to meet with her local contact Wayan, where they collaborate over mood boards, sketches and samples until they have a finished design. Wayan and her sister then hand-sew the items in the range in their own comfortable environment – it doesn’t get much better than this in terms of moral fashion!

If you’re ready to indulge in some guilt-free shopping, head over to the OneThing boutique online.
