Hang ten at Noosa Longboards’ new location in Woolloongabba

Got a beach trip planned? If not, you should book one because the surf’s up! Noosa’s iconic destination for surf apparel and retro pop-culture memorabilia has opened up a new joint in Brisbane, offering a huge selection of threads and accessories with a distinct Hawaiian flair.

In 1994, Hastings Street in Noosa welcomed an unassuming surf store to its midst, which quickly became a haven for retro revival goods and vibrant surf culture paraphernalia. Michael Holmes bought the business in 2000 and dedicated his efforts to bringing Noosa Longboards to new audiences – opening up surf culture to everyone, even if they didn’t surf! 20 years on, Noosa Longboards emphasises the non-discriminatory nature of the lifestyle, dodging all efforts to pigeonhole the brand and getting behind the increasingly popular retro revival trend. The new Woolloongabba location is a spacious store dominated by a sky blue kombi van, dozens of boards and racks of boardies, shirts and accessories. Noosa Longboards boasts an espresso bar serving Melbourne’s Locale Espresso and a selection of muffins and treats – a great excuse to hang loose and linger amongst the racks of wares for a while longer.

Noosa Longboards in Woolloongabba offers a similar range of threads to the Hastings Street location, but with more of an urban edge. Michael has sourced some iconic Hawaiian brands for the range including Reyn Spooner, which is only available in Australia at Noosa Longboards. Also of note – Noosa Longboards has exclusive rights for merchandise from the iconic surf film The Endless Summer, which encapsulates the best parts of the lifestyle. Official shirts with the signature Day-Glo poster and lithographs signed by director Bruce Brown are available only here. Noosa Longboards’ own collection of clothing and Okanui board shorts are available, as are Z-Flex Skateboards, vinyl records, signed memorabilia, DVDs and more. Avid surfers can also purchase longboards, Australian-made and handcrafted by some of the best shapers around. The store will also introduce a range of Hawaiian manchester and some surf-inspired exhibitions in the near future.
