Childlike Pannikin designs come to Nook, West End
Do you remember scribbling away drawings of cats and dogs and mice when you were young? On your piece of paper it didn’t matter that ducks were blue, puppies were pink and everyone had stick limbs, because it was your world of characters and Mum was always so terribly proud.
Someone in Brisbane illustrator Holly Leonardson’s family must have been super chuffed with her drawings as a two and a half year old, safekeeping Holly’s pictures of animals, flowers and even a ‘portrait’ of granny.
Two decades later Holly has taken these childhood drawings and engraved them into Queensland Walnut wood veneer to make earrings and brooches under her label Pannikin.
Entitled Keeping Young, the Pannikin A/W 2012 collection is Holly’s attempt to bring back that childlike joy in discovery and sense of naïve fearlessness. This new range, as well as Pannikin classics like the scout girl brooch, is now available at handmade, eco-goodies shop Nook in West End.
