Natalie Encarnita returns with minimalist fervour

At the age of 17, Australian-born Natalie Encarnita moved to the UK to follow her dream of becoming a fashion designer. By her early 20s, her designs were being stocked in large fashion retailers in the UK and boutiques across America and Japan. However, this whirlwind of success left Natalie feeling astray from her fashion core.

Taking a two-year sabbatical to rework and rediscover her unique aesthetic, Natalie has returned with a refined, angular and elegant new collection that celebrates minimalism in fashion. Having since given the edgy panelling and pattern-cutting of her past the flick, this autumn/winter 13 collection under her namesake label is a true coming of age.

Inspired by the drone music genre of 1960s New York, the now-Melbourne-based designer found intrigue in the removal of details and of honesty in fashion, creating silence among fabric that is devoid of passing trends. A breath of fresh air amongst the pattern-on-pattern stylings of late, Natalie’s pieces are calm and controlled, featuring in cloths of thick matte silk, Italian wools and crisp wool-acetate across luxury construction techniques and hand finishes. Brisbane fans will be available to find the pieces at Blonde Venus from February.
