Glide over the waves in a one-off MKSY Surfboard made right here in Brisbane.

It was the flimsiness of traditional boards – and the rate at which their foam bodies headed to landfill – that first inspired local surfer Michael Powell to start designing his own eco-friendly beauties. Sourcing sustainable Australian timbers, predominantly paulownia for the guts and red cedar and Oregon for the detailing, the industrial designer and surfboard shaper makes each and every board by hand, meaning that every gem emerging from the MKSY Surfboards (pronounced muck-sey) workshop is unique.

As opposed to typical foam boards, these custom-made, hollow wooden surfboards have minimal impact on the environment and are long-lasting thanks to their durable frames. Find more information and browse the MKSY Surfboards gallery online and check out some of Michael’s finished products on Facebook.
