Misfit Apparel takes cues from 80s true grit with its DEEPRESSION drop

The 80s were a period of total contrast – every saccharine pop jam had its brooding indie counterpart or aggressive rock and roll protest anthem. It was such an exciting time from a cultural perspective, so it’s no surprise that some of the most innovative and exciting fashion from the present day is influenced by the decade. DEEPRESSION is the latest collection from Sydney streetwear label Misfit Apparel, taking cues from punk-rock grit and everyone’s favourite outspoken role model – Henry Rollins.

To get inside the minds of the gang behind Misfit Apparel, it’s important to understand where they’re coming from. This is a brand that stemmed from Misfit Shapes, a surfboard company with an affinity for all things counter-culture. DEEPRESSION is the second instalment of Misfit’s winter collection, following up the WHITE WATER BLACK ABYSS drop from earlier in the season.

The stylised collection gives us a glimpse into true rebellion, shot amongst the concrete compound of the ‘M/SF/T MAD MINDS’ facility on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Items include a curated selection of long-sleeve button ups, simplistic t-shirts with original and bold artwork, classic longsleeves, parkas and even a couple of killer bomber jackets with contrasting back motifs and text. You can shop DEEPRESSION and other Misfit drops through the official Misfit site.
