Maudies Millinery opens hat shop at Keperra

Putting her love of 1920s cloches to practice, Christine Porter has been handcrafting vintage-inspired hats for more than 20 years. The creator behind local headwear label Maudies Millinery, Christine decided to make her desire to teach others a reality, opening a shop and studio space in Keppera.

Tucked between a patchwork shop and a knitting and crochet yarn store, Maudies Millinery is home to original and vintage-inspired headwear, haberdashery, clothing and trinkets. Christine sources and collects original hats from every era between 1910 and 1950, as well as making her own bridal and vintage designs for the store.

Reimagined jewellery and clothing by Debra Dorgan also line the shelves, along with dainty gloves, 1920s lace dresses, haberdashery, hair combs, buckles and shoes. With the charm of a gentlelady’s parlour of yesteryear, Maudies Millinery is housed in part of an old furniture-making shop, the walls and wooden floors now painted white, letting the soft, pastel tones of the millinery stand to attention.

Christine is running five-week courses of one-on-one classes, sharing her knowledge and teaching the precise craft of millinery.
