Make a statement with Wood Thumb from Biome

One day, two lads were rummaging around at a salvage yard in San Francisco looking for inspiration to soothe their creative itch, when they happened upon a neglected piece of beautiful old redwood.

With its days as a barn beam over, this long limb of redwood needed a new home. It was exactly what Christopher and David Steinrueck had been looking for.

A chop, sand, buff and polish later, this discarded beam became a set of wooden ties. Lightweight and flexible, Wood Thumb’s wooden ties are an innovative twist on traditional neckwear.

Made from reclaimed lumber from barns and houses, each tie is unique with the colours, knots, nail holes and grain patterns hinting at the history of the wood’s origins. Passionate about turning waste materials into wearable products, the guys on the Wood Thumb team believe that sharing resources and skills with the people around them allows big ideas to become realities.

From selling their creations at a market in their home town to expanding internationally, these statement piece ties are now available at Biome in Paddington and Brisbane CBD.
