Support businesses in your own backyard by purchasing a pair of handmade earrings from Local the Label. Bonus: you’ll look pretty swish as a result!

If your jewellery box is full of understated, demure studs, perhaps you should move along, because Local the Label is all about eye-catching, head-turning, conversation-starting pieces that are sure to get you noticed. Launched in 2013, Local the Label is a labour of love for Emilie Stevens, a Brissie girl with a penchant for bold, playful and quirky accessories. She handcrafts limited edition accessories for the young and young at heart and, just as the name suggests, all pieced are crafted locally, for locals, using materials sourced from local suppliers.

Her speciality is earrings – the bolder, the better – and they’re available in a rainbow of colours, from bubbly fuchsia and sunny yellow, to zen turquoise and moody maroon. Many of the designs give a nod to the 1960s, taking inspiration from the mod style of Twiggy and Bridget Bardot, while remaining fresh and playful.
