NYC-born perfumery Le Labo brings its fine fragrances to Brisbane with new James Street boutique
Need to shake up your signature scent? Is your grooming routine a bit rote? Do you want to inject a bit of luxury into your everyday routine? Friends, you need to head to Le Labo. The famed fragrance maker has opened its very first bricks-and-mortar location on Brisbane’s most fashionable promenade. Pop in and grab a hand-crafted scent (with a personalised label, to boot), an exfoliating scrub, a rejuvenating lotion or a nostril-catching candle.
One of the core tenets of Le Labo’s manifesto is the belief that the future of luxury lies in craftsmanship. If there’s anything you can say about the world-renowned perfume brand, its that all of its products – from its hand-formulated unisex perfumes and ambient room scents to its shower gels and hand soaps – are meticulously formulated and compounded using a run sheet of high-end ingredients. It’s this considered and personalised approach that has made Le Labo an in-demand name in the world of grooming. Now, Brisbane shoppers no longer need to schlep to Sydney or Melbourne (or even further abroad) to enjoy the perfumery’s signature in-store experience.
The James Street boutique boasts Le Labo’s signature Wabi Sabi-inspired aesthetic – a purposefully imperfect New York grunge that pairs grimy subway tiles and scuffed concrete with black steel shelving and distressed vintage furniture. Each shelf in the store is filled with bottles of Le Labo products and jarred ingredients – all arrayed in neat alignment. Guests can linger at the perfume station and sniff out their dream scent (which is freshly hand-blended, personalised and bottled to order in the store’s glass-encased lab) or browse the shelves of grooming products, oddities and home creations. Be it the spicy and leathery SANTAL 33 or the floral bouquet of YLANG 49, there’s an aroma for every taste. At the end of the day, the Le Labo team also believes that explanation kills art, so perhaps it’s best for you to just use your nose and discover the sense-enlivening magic for yourself.
Le Labo is now open on James Street seven days a week.
