Even in the experimental world of high fashion, Karen Walker’s wares seem to be cut from a different cloth. The designer has made a name for herself by bucking trends and realigning definitions when it comes to fashion, and her latest collection is no different. The designer is contributing to the discussion of the fluidity of gender concepts with her first eyewear collection for men, which blends subversive and timeless elements inspired by Karen’s previous work.

Monumental is a collection of six styles that have been inspired by ‘monumental men’ throughout history. The shapes – themselves informed by the iconic styles of the 30s and 50s – are imbued with modern twists that cast shade at convention and boast a unique bent. In addition to the stylistic alterations, the frames are also made from distinctive materials such as clear, black horn and tortoiseshell acetates, silver and gold metals, polarised and classic lenses coloured in smoke, brown and green. The collection, which boasts a campaign fronted by acclaimed New Zealand-musician Connan Mockasin, is now available worldwide.
