One of the most widely recognised barber chains in Brisbane has shaken up the formula, opening a hybrid location at 480 Queen that offers crisp haircuts as well as a relaxed whisky bar atmosphere.

The local barbershop has long been a haven for those looking for a quick snip and a slick shave, but in the age of male grooming regimes some men are after a bit more when they park their caboose in the comfy leather barber chair. Jimmy Rods boasts 12 locations across Brisbane offering a higher standard of practice, and is now taking its duty of care to gentlemen’s hair to new levels by opening a massive flagship location in the recently revitalised 480 Queen building. Jimmy Rods Shave Saloon Bar & Kitchen features a well-stocked, full-service bar and an expansive dining area, where dapper dudes can enjoy a drink and a bite while waiting for their turn in the barber’s chair. The space has been shaped to reflect a 1920s Chicago whisky bar aesthetic, with impeccable furniture and lighting complementing the warm palette of wood and leather.

Jimmy Rods Shave Saloon Bar & Kitchen is the first appointment-only location, meaning that CBD workers can book a fresh cut and shave online before an important business meeting or a night on the town. The location is also perfect for bucks’ parties to freshen up before rambunctious festivities. The best barbers from Jimmy Rods’ multitude of locations have been recruited to wield the scissors, meaning that the best of the best are on hand at all times. The bar stocks upwards of 40 whiskies (with more to come) in addition to other high-quality spirits in the back bar. The cocktail menu features classic concoctions as well as a strong contingent of whisky-driven recipes, with the drinks selection rounded out by tap beer from Young Henrys and Stone & Wood and good wine. The kitchen offers a menu filled with local produce, taking shape in the form of charcuterie and cheese boards and light lunch options like Reuben sandwiches and BLTs.
