Tognini’s little-sister salon Hey Hair arrives at Colwill Place

If you’ve been in Brisbane long enough, there’s a high chance you and your mane have been acquainted with award-winning James Street hair salon Tognini’s. A major player in the hairdressing industry, Tognini’s is expanding its operations and welcoming a new little sister into the fold. Recently arriving in Windsor-based retail hub Colwill Place, Hey Hair is quite the family affair …

When it came to scouting locations for their new salon, co-founders Jules Tognini and Kristian Tognini decided without a doubt that the suburbs was where it was at. The new project was born after the so-called Tognini’s baton was passed down to the brotherly duo by their father and founder Benni Tognini. Completely unique in style and feel compared to the family’s beloved James Street salon, Hey Hair is inspired by their other halves, Moira (wife of Kristian) and Erin (wife of Jules). Moira and Erin wanted to be able to sit back, relax and have their hair done in a cosy space that ticked all of the boxes aesthetically but was also unpretentious. These factors ultimately led the Tognini’s to boutique retail strip Colwill Place, where they decided to set up shop. Hair is in good company – the salon joins other Colwill Place fixtures like plant palace The Borrowed Nursery, Casuarina-born boutique Nikkou Store, caffeination station Bear Boy Espresso, and cosy florist Foliar Store.

Now, let’s talk interiors. Hey Hair’s walls have been given the magic touch by Brisbane-based artist Bonnie Gray, who’s painted the salon’s walls with pink-hued brush strokes and hidden messages. Bringing it back into the family, Hey Hair’s luxe-boho interior aesthetic was helmed by DNA Design and curated by Erin Tognini. The space has been adorned with contemporary arch motifs alongside pink, nude, and brushed gold tones and fixtures – inspired by the family’s European heritage and their love for the beachy, relaxed vibes of Northern New South Wales. The Togninis have also decided to put a strong focus on sustainability, from using recycled towels and “no-nasty” products to installing water-saving basins and integrating salon chairs made of renewable wood and recycled plastic. Their core focus however, was to continue to build upon the reputation and loyal customer base that the OG Tognini salon has cultivated over the past 30 years. Boasting four stylists including three senior award-winning stylists, Hey Hair offers a huge range of hair services and specialises in blondes, balayage, and freehand colour. Head to the Stumble Guide for contact details and opening hours!
