Slip in to local handmade lingerie

Just because it’s winter and you’re rugged up in layers upon layers of bulky clothing to keep your bones warm, doesn’t mean your lingerie can’t be having a little fun beneath the surface. Let us introduce you to four labels worth a look-in.

The creation of Jemma Aickin, Hatsumi’s Laundry melds sheer polka dot mesh with minimalist designs to form intimate and intriguing lingerie. The brand grew from frustration regarding the lack of soft-cup bras on the market, with Jemma turning her hand to designing halter-cut and racer-back numbers in black and white lace as a result.

The refined brand of Sally Jones, SJ Lingerie is based on the Gold Coast, with creative director Katie Rackley sketching up bold and provocative collections. Each piece is locally made from silk and lace sourced from France, touting a refined palette of black, nude and ivory. Amongst current offerings are the Raw, Pearl and Vixen collections comprising baby doll slips, bralettes, briefs and bodysuits. A percentage from every SJ Lingerie purchase also goes towards the Desert Flower Foundation to end female genital mutilation.

Those who have sought out handmade considerate lingerie brands in the past may have stumbled upon the work of Gabrielle Adamidis of Hopeless Lingerie. Handmade in Melbourne, the label finds a balance between minimal basics and beguiling harness knickers and garters. Bralettes and camis teeter between soft bamboo jerseys and lightweight lace and mesh. Each piece is made-to-order by Gabrielle and her small team, so place your orders ahead of your desired wearing time.

Madonna Bain crafts eco-lingerie in Byron Bay, sourcing environmentally friendly textiles from around the world. Intimates, lingerie and sleepwear are handmade from organic cotton, enveloping your skin in super soft, luxurious hug that will bring a knowing smile to the corner of your lips.
