Greenhouse homewares opens on James Street

Just when you thought James Street was the dame who had everything, a quirky new addition has come along to show you what you’ve been missing.

Our homes are filled with all sorts of practical items that serve a purpose but don’t particularly help the aesthetics. Think toilet roll holders, cleaning brushes and peg baskets. They’re part of the grin-and-bear-it category of belongings – or so we thought, until Greenhouse came along and changed our minds. The new homewares boutique is on a quest to change the perception that everyday home essentials can’t be beautiful. Its range of kitchenware, bedroom decor, footwear, grooming goods and gifts are grounded on the three pillars of necessity, utility and beauty, while also chasing a sustainable bent.

Owner Melissa Grainger has sourced the very best of international design from major brands as well as emerging designers. A wall of global goods offers up clever kitchen inventions from the likes of Design House Stockholm and normann Copenhagen, while the neighbouring shelves house cuties like moustache-shaped ice-cube trays, bowler-hat butter dishes and baseball-bat rolling pins. Linger a little longer and you’ll also find wooden toast tongs, bamboo iPhone covers and the legendary Barcelona Pavilion bird feeder. The new Fortitude Valley store joins two other Greenhouse outlets on the Gold Coast and Byron Bay.
