Cop some threads from Grand Scheme’s new Valley store
One of Brisbane’s own niche street-wear labels has opened a slick new boutique on Ann Street in Fortitude Valley, stocking a sizeable range of high quality garments and breathing new life into the area’s retail scene.
Originating in Brisbane in the mid-2000s, Grand Scheme Supply Co has been built up from grassroots beginnings to become a respected label in its own right, keeping things niche and underground while leading the charge in contemporary Australian street wear with a influential following both locally and overseas. After spending a few years in Melbourne to hone his craft and further the label in Australia, Grand Scheme founder Jimmy Bligs decided to make a return to his hometown of Brisbane this year with a brand new store showcasing the label’s growth and evolution. Following the brand’s ethos as culture-oriented label for likeminded people, Jimmy recruited friend, designer, artist and long-time supporter of the brand Sammy Gilliland as store owner and manager, together setting about creating a space that would capitalise on Fortitude Valley’s current boom, to make some waves in the local fashion scene and create a movement that people want to be a part of.
Sammy has transformed the space into a happening hangout spot, with a stylish minimalist fit-out that is cool yet approachable. Shoppers can leisurely linger amongst the racks of garments or can kick back on the couch and play some Street Fighter vs X-Men on the custom-built games console. The racks are packed with a range of duds including hoodies, jackets, shirts, caps, bucket hats, shorts and chinos – all designed by Jimmy Bligs himself. While Grand Scheme creates seasonal collections, expect several injections of new threads throughout the year – with limited run capsule collections popping up often. Furthering its community focus, the Grand Scheme will look to host exhibitions, listening parties and other events in the future.
Don’t sleep – head to Grand Scheme Supply Co as soon as possible to get kitted out. Check out the Stumble Guide for more info.
